I
was raised on a farm near Tipton, Kansas. As a kid, I enjoyed
drawing cartoon strips and the farm animals. Being a farm boy I
spent endless hours on a tractor doing field work to past the
time. I studied the wide open skies and the drama that the
afternoon thunderstorms would bring. That got me interested in
art, wanting to capture the drama and beauty of an afternoon
thunderstorm, racing home on the tractor before getting soaked
by rain or hit by a hail stone.
I studied the landscape around home,
how it was formed etc. That is probably the
reason I mostly paint landscapes or animals. There is so much
drama that takes place in nature that we aren’t even aware of
unless we really take notice.
In 1962, I graduated from the
Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, Colorado. I studied figure
drawing and painting with the renown western artist Charles Dye.
I worked as an graphic designer for
23 years at Bausch & Lomb, Inc. in Rochester, NY. After leaving
Bausch & Lomb, I worked for several advertising agencies in New
York state and Nebraska. I presently work part time at WDStone &
Associates in Cookeville, TN.
Married for 34 years to Sandra with
one daughter. Hannah.
